STEAMfest – Celebrating Innovation and Creativity
STEAMfest is Marshall Road State School's annual celebration of all things Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This exciting event brings together our school community to showcase student learning, creativity, and curiosity across these key learning areas.
Held in Term 3, STEAMfest features a wide range of interactive activities, exhibitions, and performances from students in Prep to Year 6. Throughout the event, students engage in hands-on experiences that explore real-world challenges, encourage innovation, and highlight the powerful connection between the arts and sciences.
As part of the celebration, our choirs and instrumental music students also take to the stage to share their talents, adding a vibrant musical element to the festival atmosphere.
The event culminates in a dynamic community evening, where families are invited to explore student displays, enjoy performances, and celebrate the achievements of our young learners.
Join us each year as we inspire young minds and showcase the future of learning, creativity, and collaboration at STEAMfest!
Visual Arts at Marshall Road State School
Visual Arts is a vital strand of The Arts learning area and plays a key role in developing students' creativity, critical thinking, and visual literacy. According to the Australian Curriculum (Version 9.0), “The Arts enable students to learn how to create, design, represent, communicate and share their imagined and conceptual ideas, emotions, observations and experiences."
At Marshall Road State School, all students from Prep to Year 6 participate in Visual Arts lessons with our specialist art teacher, Mrs Venus Nicolaides. These lessons provide students with rich opportunities to explore various art forms including painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture.
Through exposure to a range of styles and movements—such as Realism, Impressionism, Cubism, and Abstract Expressionism—students are encouraged to experiment, reflect, and express their ideas. They also learn to apply and analyse key design elements (line, shape, colour, value, form, texture, and space) and design principles (balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, and unity).
Our school community places a strong emphasis on the value of the Arts. Student artwork is proudly showcased across the school in classrooms, the office foyer, the Resource Centre, and the Performing Arts Centre, celebrating creativity and student achievement throughout the year.
