Our school-wide pedagogical approach is based on Age Appropriate Pedagogies (AAP). It encompasses the 11 characteristics and 7 approaches of AAP as well as Visible Thinking Routines (Ron Ritchhart) and 5 Learner Assets (Kath Murdoch).
AAP is embedded in teacher planning and used to engage our students with the curriculum and further develop their critical and creative thinking. We endeavor to prepare our students for lifelong learning in the 21st Century by focusing on not only 'What' they are learning (subject content) but also 'How' students are learning. The 'How' refers to our 'Learner Assets', which contain skills and dispositions that ask students how they can be effective: Self-Managers, Collaborators, Thinkers, and Researchers and Communicators (©Kath Murdoch 2015). During 2022, our teachers are working with their class across each term to unpack the dispositions of each Learner Asset.
Our classes use Bump It Up walls as a signature practice to empower students to clearly understand their summative assessment task and develop authethic goals to guide their learning journey.
We encourage children to communicate and reflect on all areas of learning through teacher and peer conferencing. Data is gathered on a regular basis as informed by our Data Literacy Framework and used to differentiate the curriculum to meet students’ learning needs.
Our school implements the Australian Curriculum (V8) and aims to have all students meet the achievement standards by the end of the school year. Additional parent information is available on the Australian Curriculum website. Every term, our teachers provide detailed Curriculum Overviews which aim to keep parents informed of the learning and assessment in each curriculum area. These overviews are emailed by class teachers and also available below.
