In years 3 and 4, the students establish the basics of playing their instruments with good posture and in tune.  Ensemble skills are developed from the beginning in the group lessons.  Students have opportunities to perform at end-of-semester school music concerts and at school assemblies.  In year 4, students participate in the Southside Junior Strings Workshops to extend their ensemble skills and to experience playing in a large orchestra.

Senior Strings

This ensemble is made up of students from Years 5 and 6.  They further develop their ensemble playing skills, by playing more challenging repertoire with multiple parts.  The senior strings perform at end-of-semester school music concerts, the state-wide Fanfare Festival, which is held every two years, and other performance opportunities throughout the year.  In year 6, students participate in  the Southside Senior Music Workshops to further develop their ensemble skills and to help them prepare for the challenges of continuing instrumental music in high school.

Senior sgtrings rehearsals are conducted Thursday mornings, 7:30am to 8:30am in the PAC.

Senior Band

All senior band students from Years 5 and 6 form the Senior Band.  These students perform more challenging music, more challenging arrangements, more challenging part work. Senior band rehearsals are conducted Monday mornings 7:40 – 8:40am in the PAC.
